FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Several communities in South Florida suffered flooded streets on Monday as heavy rains moved through the area.
From Davie to Pembroke Pines, a number of Broward County communities were hit with a considerable amount of rain in a short period of time.
The storms were enough to trigger flood advisories across South Florida that remained in effect through the afternoon.
They also caused widespread delays at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Officials said 89 flights were delayed and 29 were canceled as ground stop was ordered for departing flights amid the thunderstorms.
It was a similar story over at Miami International Airport, where passengers were greeted with more delays and canceled flights, many just trying to make it home.
“We’re crossing our fingers that we’ll actually make it because if not, we’re gonna be stuck here for the night and we’d have to wait in another line, and it took us 2 hours to wait to get our flight changed in the first place,” said one passenger at MIA.
Officials at Miami International Airport said as of Monday afternoon, there had been 181 flight delays and 47 cancellations, mostly due to the weather.
