MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — A Miami Gardens couple accused of turning their home into a counterfeit luxury storefront declined to answer questions on Thursday from Local 10 News after recently bonding out of jail.
Police said Mayrelis Marquez Plans, 32, and Yuri Rafael Velazquez-Garcia, 33, were arrested Tuesday at their home on Northwest 185th Street, where detectives executed a search warrant and seized more than 500 counterfeit Louis Vuitton items.
Authorities allege the pair sold handbags, shoes and clothing on social media, offering nationwide shipping and presenting their home as a high-end store.
The case began in July when a detective saw a social media influencer’s Instagram post that appeared to show Velazquez-Garcia with counterfeit items displayed for sale. The influencer is not connected to the crime.
Undercover officers later made two purchases, including a $180 deal for a handbag and shirt that police said would have been worth nearly $9,000 if authentic.
A state attorney said the confiscated merchandise would have been valued at more than half a million dollars had it been real.
The couple appeared in court Wednesday minutes apart.
Their defense attorney asked the judge to set the same bond, noting they are husband and wife co-defendants. A judge found probable cause for the charges and set bond at $5,000 each, which they posted Wednesday.
When approached again by Local 10 News outside their home Thursday morning, Marquez Plans and Velazquez-Garcia refused to comment.
