FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A September 11th tribute in Fort Lauderdale was centered around a monument along the New River, but beside it all, there was a heavy police presence.
Officers with long guns were on high alert as elected officials, including Republican Congressman Byron Donalds, showed up.
The Florida Gubernatorial candidate was also a friend of Charlie Kirk.
“Everybody’s shaken by it and we have to remember as Americans, we have to respect everybody’s humanity no matter how much we disagree,” said Donalds.
Ever since kirk was assassinated Wednesday on the campus of Utah Valley University, there have been people praising his murder on social media.
Tatiana Atkins, a prior 2018 resident of Larkin Community Hospital, posted her views on TikTok.
“I’m just really glad Charlie Kirk just got himself shot,” she said in a video.
It prompted the hospital to issue a statement that read: “The views in this video do not represent the mission, vision or values of our organization.”
In another post, the Chief Officer of Miami Country Day school commented on a Pray for Charlie Kirk post, saying: “He died, oh well- he ironically promoted gun usage. Karma.”
The school has since said that he has resigned, as the words do not align with its values.
