New info released into cause of Broward Sheriff's Fire Rescue helicopter crash

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — The NTSB has released new information into the Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue helicopter crash in 2023.

The agency found that about a minute after taking off, the chopper had a double engine control failure that led to a fire.

The pilot then heard a loud bang and saw rising engine temperatures, but wasn’t alerted by the aircraft.

A second bang followed, and the helicopter spun out of control, crashing into an apartment building in Pompano Beach.

Two people were killed in the crash, and four others were injured.

The reason for the initial engine control failure is not known.
