OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — A 44-year-old Opa-locka woman was arrested Thursday after her child was found living in unsafe conditions, including with feces scattered throughout the home, according to police.
Jail records show Lizbel Laureano Diaz is facing one count of child neglect without great bodily harm.
Opa-locka police officers said they were initially dispatched to a home following a report of a domestic dispute.
The child’s father told police he was dropping off a tablet for his son when he walked into the home and noticed that it “was not in good living condition for his son,” according to the report.
Moments later, police said Laureano Diaz arrived at the home.
According to an arrest report, officers detected a strong odor of dog feces and noted that the home was “hoarder-like,” with clutter throughout the rooms and walkways.
They said both fresh and old feces were observed, and the refrigerator contained rotten, moldy food packed in bags. Dishes in the sink were unwashed and infested with roaches and mold, the report stated.
“The residence is a safety hazard,” an officer wrote in the report. “The clutter in the residence creates significant risks, including fire, falls, and blocked exits in case of an emergency.”
Authorities said they temporarily placed the child in the father’s custody, and Laureano Diaz was taken to jail.
As of Friday, she was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where her bond was listed as “to be set.”
