MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A Russian tourist pleaded guilty Friday to child abuse after surveillance video showed him kicking, dragging and slamming his 2-year-old daughter at a South Florida condo back in May.
Andrei Sevastianov, 37, appeared in court via Zoom with a Russian interpreter to accept the plea deal.
He was sentenced to 90 days in jail, with credit for time served, and five years of probation. He is also prohibited from having any harmful contact with the child.
“If you violate any of the terms of your community control or probation, by picking up any new law violations or in any other way, I may still sentence you to up to 10 years in state prison,” Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Michelle A. Delancy told Sevastianov.
“Yes, I understand that,” Sevastianov replied.
The attack occurred on the evening of May 20 at the La Perla Condos, located at 16699 Collins Ave., in Sunny Isles Beach.
Police said surveillance video captured Sevastianov pulling the girl by her hair, dropping her, dragging her, kicking her, and appearing to choke her.
Authorities said Sevastianov later told investigators the child “was being fussy.” Witnesses called police after seeing the abuse.
Delancy had a stern warning for the defendant. “Don’t mess this up,” she said during the Zoom hearing.
Sevastianov is expected to be deported back to Russia as early as Saturday.
