Man injures Miami Beach police officer while on probation for impersonating an officer: Police

Saliya Siby Saliya Siby has been getting arrested since 2021 in Miami Beach accused of trespassing and camping. He was arrested again on Saturday while on probation for impersonating a police officer in 2024.

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A 46-year-old homeless man was armed with a knife and walking in and out of traffic before he injured a police officer on Saturday morning in Miami Beach, police said.

Saliya Siby headbutted a police officer along West 41st Street, near Royal Palm Avenue, and the police officer required stitches at the nearby Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.

Miami-Dade County court records show Siby, who was born in New York and has been arrested in Miami Beach every year since 2021, was on probation for a 2024 case until March 26, 2026.

Here is Siby’s Miami Beach arrest record:

Police officers arrested him on Dec. 10 for impersonating a police officer and threatening a police officer. He avoided a formal conviction and was sentenced to probation for a year, court records show.

Police officers arrested him on Jan. 31, 2024, for trespassing a private property after a warning and resisting arrest, court records show.

Police officers arrested him on Nov. 20, 2022, and accused him of violating a municipal ordinance that prohibits camping, court records show.

Police officers arrested him on Feb. 22, 2022, for assaulting a police officer and on Jan. 20, 2021, for trespassing a private property after a warning, court records show.
