MIAMI SHORES, Fla. —
The annual Kennedy Kids 5K for Teen Mental Health was held at Barry University in Miami Shores.
All proceeds from the event went to supporting the Kennedy Kids Foundation, created in memory of 15-year-old Kennedy Bailey, who lost her life to suicide in 2022.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death for teens and young adults aged 10 to 24.
“It all makes it worth it, coming out here for a good cause,” volunteer Caroline Figueroa said. “We’re on the (Barry University) softball team, so we kind of know what it’s like to kind of put in the grind and it’s for a good cause, so I mean, we’re happy to be out here. We’re happy to be spreading awareness for mental health, especially youth.”
Beyond the medals and prizes, the biggest takeaway is spreading hope by starting conversations around teen mental health.
