MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies arrested a North Miami Beach man on two attempted murder charges over the weekend after they said he intentionally hit two people walking in a shopping center just outside of the city.
Authorities said Claudy Saul, 49, waited for each victim to cross at separate crosswalks before running them over.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at around 12:40 p.m. Saturday at the Shops at Skylake, located at 1650 NE Miami Gardens Drive in the unincorporated Ojus area.
Deputies said Saul first stopped at a stop sign as the first victim crossed the plaza, then accelerated and hit her, sending her to the hospital with serious injuries.
He then “continued driving east,” stopped at another stop sign, then waited for a man to cross and sped up and hit him, deputies said. He, too, was taken to a hospital.
Deputies said after hitting the man, Saul drove into a concrete pillar, disabling his vehicle. An MDSO deputy took him into custody as he remained inside.
The arrest report doesn’t list an alleged motive for the seemingly random incidents. It states that Saul was formally arrested after being taken to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital.
As of Monday, Saul was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, online jail records show.
