Roosevelt Joseph, 21, who is currently homeless, faces charges of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, misuse of the 911 system and obstructing a police officer.

According to his arrest report, North Miami Beach police officers responded to the 1600 block of Northeast 164th Street around 9:45 a.m. on Sept. 6 after Joseph called 911 and claimed that he had just stabbed a woman.

Police said officers responded to the area and found Joseph, who pulled out a knife.

Multiple commands were made for Joseph to drop the weapon, but he refused and charged at an officer, authorities said.

Police said the officer discharged his gun, shooting Joseph once in the right-side of his groin area and once in the left arm.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel transported Joseph to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

According to the report, officers searched the area for any victims who had been stabbed, but none were found.

Police said detectives went to the hospital last Wednesday and read Joseph his Miranda rights, at which time he invoked his right to remain silent.

The report states that he later asked for law enforcement, including a Florida Department of Law Enforcement agent, to respond to the hospital as he had changed his mind, and wished to provide a statement.

The statement was made Friday, but was redacted from the publicly released report.

Online jail records show he was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Friday, where he is being held without bond.

The FDLE is investigating the police shooting, per standard protocol.
