Firefighters responded to the home on Northwest 157th Terrace around 5 a.m., and though crews initially cleared the scene, flames reignited, forcing them back to fully extinguish the blaze.

Video from Sky 10 showed a gash in the roof and soot lining the top of the house, evidence of the fire’s intensity.

Luis Escalante, who lives nearby, said he had never seen anything like it.

“With a fire happening here with that many firemen outside of this area, in the two years I’ve been living here, I’ve never seen that,” he said.

The homeowner, identified by neighbors only as Gwen, had celebrated her birthday just the day before the fire.

Escalante called her “a really good old lady” and added, “It’s sad what happened to her.”

Fire crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring homes.

A sticker on a window marked the home as unsafe, signaling the start of a long recovery and cleanup process for the senior.
