MIAMI — The Miami Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a 44-year-old man who has been missing for more than a week now.
According to police, Ivan Jose Alonso was last seen in the Allapattah area on Sept. 14.
His father told Local 10 News that they went to the Miami Dolphins home opener together. He then dropped him off at a friend’s apartment at Singer Plaza, but Alonso missed the bus to get back to Venice, Florida.
Now his father is fearing the worst as the search for Alonso intensifies.
“When he was 19 or 20, he developed schizophrenia. We’ved had a lot of issues with him, getting him to take his medication and whatever,” Jorge Alonso said. “He stopped taking my calls, he stopped taking his mother’s calls, and he stopped taking his brother’s calls. I texted him a couple of times; he would send me a text back -- made no sense.”
Alonso was last seen wearing a blue Brooklyn Dodgers cap, a gray shirt, dark pants and gray sneakers.
His father, Jorge Alonso, is urging anyone with information to communicate police.
“I think he’s around the Miami Springs area,” Jorge Alonso said. “The problem is, I just can’t go hotel by hotel looking for him. You know, they’re probably going to throw me out.”
