High school coach accused of violence towards students says nothing as he bonds out of Broward jail

Coach accused of violent encounter with students walks out of jail

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — An assistant high school football coach arrested after deputies said he had a violent encounter with students bonded out of the Broward County jail early Thursday evening.

Jamir Clarke, 29, faces child abuse charges and had nothing to say as he got out of jail in Fort Lauderdale.

He served as an assistant football coach at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach.

That’s where authorities said he got physical with a student after a verbal spat.

An arrest report stated that Clarke called the student a “b----” and punched him in the face after he admitted to posting something negative on social media about someone associated with Clarke.

Deputies said other students then surrounded Clarke and “rushed” him, prompting him to start “swinging punches” at the students.

“While he is arguing he acted in self-defense, he is a significant size, your honor, so there is a valid reason for the teammates of this victim to be of concern as Mr. Clarke presented a risk to them,” prosecutor Eric Linder said in court on Wednesday.

It turned out that Clark was also a campus monitor at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, where a video of him kicking a child in a school bathroom had been shared across social media.

Officials with Broward County Public Schools said Clarke has been reassigned away from students while the district reviews the matter, potentially leading to his termination.
