MIAMI — A dive team with U.S. Border Patrol made history this week, with their first ever “parasitic drug seizure” in Miami, USBP Chief Michael W. Banks announced Thursday on social media.
According to Banks, the dive team was in the water Tuesday when they discovered a “parasitic load strapped to the hull of a vessel arriving from the Dominican Republic.”
Banks said the agents used specialized underwater cutting tools to extract 8 pounds of cocaine from deep inside the ship’s belly.

The CBP Office Field of Operations seized the drugs, Banks confirmed.
“Our specialized team made history with their first ever parasitic drug seizure,” Bank’s post read. “This marks an innovative advancement to continuing narcotics interdiction efforts.”
It’s unclear whether any arrests were made.
