MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — A Miami Beach man was arrested on a felony hit-and-run charge on Thursday after police said he rear-ended a motorcyclist in July and fled the scene as the injured biker lay in the road.
According to Miami Beach police, the wreck happened on July 2 at 71st Street and Bay Drive on the eastern end of Normandy Isle.
Investigators said that Jonathan Dogliotti, 30, of North Beach, was driving a 2011 BMW 3-Series just before midnight when he rear-ended the motorcyclist, who was braking for a red light.
Authorities said in an arrest report that the crash caused the victim to be flung off the bike and onto the road.
Police said CCTV footage showed that Dogliotti “exited his vehicle, approached the victim and subsequently fled the scene with urgency.”
They said the footage also showed that “witnesses flagged (Dogliotti) down in an attempt to stop him from fleeing the scene.”
Authorities said Dogliotti eventually ditched the BMW at 1600 John F. Kennedy Causeway in nearby North Bay Village. Police seized the sedan.
Medics took the motorcyclist to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with multiple injuries and he later required additional treatment at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
Dogliotti would later make several statements to police that were redacted from the report.
Following his arrest, he was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash causing serious bodily injury.
Jail records show he remained at TGK on a $7,500 bond as of Friday afternoon.
