HOLLWOOD, Fla. — Locals in a Hollywood residential neighborhood are on edge after several coyote sightings.
It’s in the area of Roosevelt Road where neighbors told Local 10 News that the coyote has been seen both at night and day over the past several weeks.
Some residents are happy to see the coyote while others are not.
Max Smith said he was walking his dogs when they came face to face with a coyote.
“We saw the coyote about 100 feet away, and the coyote ran up on us, maybe 10 feet away from us,” he said.
Smith said his dog Koda tried to howl and scare the coyote away.
“It wasn’t intimidated by my two big dogs, so we followed it for a little bit, and then it disappeared,” he said.
Smith isn’t the only one that is not scared of the coyote.
“I got a dog sometimes wandering around, around the alley neighborhood, but I think he’s skittish enough that he’ll get away,” said resident Daniel Terrien.
Tom Keiser, who lives in the area, said he would rather the coyotes move along to someplace else.
“There’s people here that have cats outside,” he said. “Cats definitely, even if there wasn’t coyotes, cats need to stay inside.”
Keiser doesn’t want the coyotes to grab anyone’s pets, especially cats, because he is too busy capturing them and finding them a good home.
“There’s a local park where unfortunately people that don’t want their cats anymore go and throw them away,” he said. “Si I care for between 30 and 50 cats at a time on a daily basis.”
