Deputies capture convicted killer mistakenly released from jail

Convicted killer mistakenly released from jail is back in custody

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A convicted killer who was mistakenly released from jail in Miami-Dade County has been captured.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, James Edward Daniels was located in Georgia on Thursday.

A $30,000 reward had been offered for tips that led to his capture.

Authorities said Daniels was with another person, identified as Timishea Price, and the two were found by officers with the Reynolds Police Department and U.S. Marshals.

The Marshals took Daniels into custody while Reynolds officers said they arrested Price and are pursuing felony charges of hindering the apprehension of a criminal.

Miami-Dade corrections officials blamed Daniels’ release on what they called a “procedural error.”

According to police, Daniels was part of a group that kidnapped three people in December of 2020.

Investigators said Daniels tied up and tortured the victims before throwing them into the back of a van and taking them to an abandoned house.

Only one of the three victims survived the ordeal.

Federal prosecutors said Daniels “bound and tortured” the victims, “duct-taped their eyes, and threw them into the back of a rented van after stealing” drugs from them.

Authorities said he then took them to an abandoned house located at 1801 Rutland St. to execute them by gunshot.

Daniels was convicted by a jury on all charges last year and sentenced to life in prison in March.
