REYNOLDS, GA. — Body camera footage obtained from the Reynolds Police Department in Georgia shows authorities arresting James Daniels, a convicted killer involved in a 2020 Florida kidnapping and double murder, after he was mistakenly released from a Miami prison over the weekend.
The video also shows Timishea Price, who was detained by Reynolds police for allegedly hiding Daniels.
Daniels, 60, was part of a group convicted in connection with the 2020 kidnapping and murders of two men and the attempted murder of a third in Opa-locka, Florida.
Deputies said the victims were bound, tortured, and thrown into the back of a van after drugs were stolen from them.
They said victims were taken to an abandoned house at 1801 Rutland St., where two were killed and one survived. Daniels also stole jewelry from one of the victims, according to federal prosecutors.
Last year, Daniels was convicted in U.S. District Court in Miami of conspiracy to commit kidnapping resulting in death, two counts of kidnapping resulting in death, and kidnapping. He was sentenced to life in prison in March.
Daniels had been mistakenly released from Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on Saturday due to a procedural error, Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department spokesman Juan Diasgranados said. An internal affairs investigation is ongoing.
“The top priority of MDCR is to ensure his swift apprehension and safe return to custody,” Diasgranados said last month. “All available resources are being utilized, including the assistance of our local and federal law enforcement partners.”
Detective Luis Sierra also confirmed that the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office was notified that Daniels should not have been released and joined federal authorities in locating him.
Investigators said the case involved the combined efforts of the DEA, FBI, MDSO, and Opa-locka Police Department. Daniels’ co-conspirators and accomplices were also prosecuted in the multi-agency investigation.
