It happened just before 9 a.m. at the Twin Lakes Villas apartment complex, located in the 4100 block of Northwest 16th Avenue in Oakland Park.

Deputies said they pulled the girl from the water and medics “immediately began administering life-saving measures and transported the child to an area hospital for treatment,” but the girl later died.

While deputies did not specify the girl’s age, neighbors described the girl as “young” and a “little kid.”

“I heard the father screaming and screaming and screaming,” a maintenance worker, who did not want to be identified, said. “I see (her) turning from white to purple and I called the cops and I go outside and I brought the people inside.”

He added, “One of the ladies tried to do CPR and pushed on the chest, pushing and pushing.”

Authorities said the “circumstances surrounding the child’s death remain under investigation.”
