CORAL GABLES, Fla. — A man is facing multiple felony charges after intentionally hitting a Coral Gables police officer with his motorcycle, knocking the motorman off his own bike and onto the pavement, investigators said.
The incident happened just before 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 26, authorities said.
According to an arrest report, the motorcycle officer tried to pull over Jose Rafael Badillo, 31, of southwest Miami-Dade, in the 300 block of Malaga Avenue.
Authorities said Badillo kept going and as the officer pulled his own motorcycle alongside Badillo’s in an attempt to get him to pull over, Badillo swerved his bike to the left, knocking the cop off and causing the out-of-control police motorcycle to hit a parked Tesla.
He then rode off, fleeing south on Le Jeune Road, police said.
The officer suffered a “severe abrasion” and was treated at Baptist Health Doctors Hospital, police said.
Authorities said they were able to identify Badillo and take him into custody on Thursday on charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated fleeing and eluding, resisting with violence and two counts of driving while license suspended, third or subsequent conviction.
As of Friday afternoon, he was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
