LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. — Questions remain Monday, two days after Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputies swarmed a home for hours.
What started as a fender bender and shooting Saturday outside a barbershop in Lauderdale Lakes led to deputies surrounding a house that night, believing a shooting suspect was holed up inside.
From the outside of the home located in the area of Southwest First Street and 27th Terrace in Fort Lauderdale, much of the damage was hard to see, but neighbors say they heard loud flashes and saw tear gas deployed as the standoff unfolded.
For hours, a SWAT team used an armored vehicle to move in and fire tear gas into the home.
By about 11:30 p.m., BSO confirmed no one was inside the home and no arrests were made.
According to authorities, the incident stemmed from a shooting earlier in the day in the parking lot of a Lauderdale Lakes barbershop.
Surveillance video shows a driver backing into an SUV, and the driver of that SUV firing three shots.
“I’ve been coming here for over 20 years and this is the first time this ever happened,” Alicia Parrish told Local 10 News.
Parrish was next door getting her nails done when the shooting occurred and her grandkids were in the car, just feet from where the gunfire erupted.
“I didn’t know what to do. I had to wait,” she said. “I called them on the phone and told them to lay low in the car.”
