MIAMI — Three men have been arrested in connection with a violent armed robbery that occurred outside a Brickell hotel in 2023, according to the Miami Police Department.
Investigators said the robbery happened around 7:55 a.m. on June 18, 2023, in the valet area of the East Miami hotel at 700 Brickell Plaza.
Surveillance video released by the Miami Police Department shows a black BMW 540i losing control and flipping on its side after hitting a median on June 18, 2023.
Moments later, three armed men are seen running away from the overturned vehicle.
“They hit the median, flip on their side, and then you see the three subjects running away from the vehicle,” said Officer and MPD spokesman Michael Vega.
Police identified the suspects in an arrest report obtained by Local 10 Wednesday as Ron Juba, 26, Ronquez Williams, 24, of Fort Lauderdale and his brother, Ronald Williams, 25, of Pompano Beach.
“These three subjects are inside that vehicle waiting for them to come out,” Vega said. “They pull out their firearms, point it at them, say ‘I’m going to kill you if you don’t give me this.’ The victims fear for their lives and give them the necklace — $30,000.”
The report stated that Juba pointed a gun at one victim while demanding jewelry, cash, and other valuables. Police said the other two suspects joined in, taking several watches, rings and chains.
At one point, investigators said Juba tried to rip a chain from one victim’s neck and threatened to kill him if he didn’t hand it over.
They said the suspects then ran back to the BMW and sped away. Moments later, the car crashed and overturned along Brickell Avenue.
Video surveillance captured the robbery, the crash, and the suspects running from the scene. When officers searched the BMW, they found stolen jewelry, two guns and a cellphone.
Detectives said one of the guns, a Glock 26 Gen 5, had been purchased by Ronquez Williams just weeks before the reported robbery.
Investigators later recovered text messages indicating that he had prior knowledge of the crime and had instructed someone to file a false report claiming the gun was stolen.
Authorities said the FBI assisted in analyzing forensic evidence, which ultimately linked all three men to the crime.
Jail records show Ronquez Williams and Ronald Williams are each facing one count of robbery with a firearm or deadly weapon. Ron Juba is facing two counts of the same charge.
According to records, Ronquez and Ronald Williams are being held at the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center, where their bonds are listed as “to be set.” Juba is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
