It happened Wednesday just before 8 p.m. along the 3500 block of Northwest Eighth Court in Lauderhill.

Officers said they responded after receiving a ShotSpotter alert and upon arrival, found an 8-year-old girl who had been shot.

She was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where she remains in stable condition.

Neighbor Willie Summers has been living in the area for more than 50 years and said its not uncommon to hear gunshots.

“When I heard boom, I’m down. I’ve crawled under the vehicle before,” he said. “I heard tires screeching, but I didn’t even look up. I just stayed down.”

Summers said he’s seen the victim playing outside with other children many times.

“They’re good kids,” he said. “They come play in my yard, they play over there. They don’t get in no trouble.”

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
