Margate family needs help after fire kills boy and dog

MARGATE, Fla. — The Legacy Close, a nonprofit organization, was accepting donations for a grieving family after a fatal house fire in Margate.

The house fire on Thursday at the 5500 block of Southwest Sixth Street killed 13-year-old Gianni Jackson and his dog.

A person was injured, firefighters rescued a dog, and a firefighter’s gear was set ablaze, but he or she wasn’t hurt, officials said.

The nonprofit is accepting donations at 6450 West Atlantic Boulevard from 12 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. For more information about how to help the family, contact The Legacy Closet on this page or call 954-470-1118.
