Driver responsible for crash that killed 8-year-old goes before judge

Three years after crash, driver responsible for death of 8-year-old goes before judge

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Nearly three years after the crash that claimed the life of 8-year-old Rushawn Daley, the driver of the car that caused the crash is in court.

On Tuesday, 44-year-old Arthur Miller went before a judge for the first time.

The state has said Miller fully cooperated with investigators, but they no longer believe the cash to be an accident.

It happened on Nov. 16, 2022 along the 1900 block of Northwest 21st Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.

Daley was walking home from school when police say Miller came barreling through a 15 mph school zone at more than 35 mph.

He crossed into oncoming traffic, went up on the side walk and struck Daley, who died a few days later.

The child’s mother, Shantoy Speid, also made an appearance at Tuesday’s hearing.

Miller’s bond was set at $50,000.

After posting bond, he will have to follow strict rules upon his release, including wearing a GPS ankle monitor and only being able to drive for work purposes.
