LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. — A 32-year-old woman was arrested Wednesday after she stabbed another woman in the face at the group home in Lauderdale Lakes where they live, authorities said.
According to an arrest report from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the home around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a call about a stabbing.
Deputies said when they arrived, they found the victim suffering from two stab wounds to her face.
She was transported to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.
According to the arrest report, Cerriann McDonald stabbed the woman after she asked the victim for a cigarette and the victim told her to “wait one minute.”
Deputies said the victim was not able to see what McDonald stabbed her with.
According to the report, McDonald and the victim have been living at the group home for six months.
Deputies said McDonald confessed to the stabbing, saying the two were initially involved in an altercation over McDonald going outside to smoke a cigarette.
According to the report, McDonald said she spat on the victim during the altercation and the victim spat back at her.
She said she then stabbed the victim in the face and eye with a silver butter knife, and admitted she did so with the intent to kill the victim because of the way the woman has treated her in the past, the report stated.
According to the report, McDonald said she threw the knife into the neighbor’s backyard after the attack.
McDonald was arrested on an attempted murder charge.
Online jail records show she also faces a charge of battery on an emergency medical care provider.
As of Thursday afternoon, McDonald was being held at the North Broward Bureau without bond.
