DAVIE, Fla. — Fire rescue crews responded to Nova Southeastern University in Davie on Thursday morning after a confirmed gas leak on campus.

Sky 10 flew over the scene around 9:45 a.m., where Davie Fire Rescue units could be seen outside the university at 3300 South University Dr. Students and employees were evacuated as crews investigated and worked to repair the leak.

According to Davie Fire Rescue, the Broward Sheriff’s Office, and Hollywood’s HazMat team also responded to an active gas leak at 3270 South University Dr., near the Terry Administration Building, after a 2-inch gas line was struck by a backhoe.

Authorities said University Drive was temporarily shut down in both directions from about 30th Street to 36th Street while crews worked to secure the area.
