MIAMI — A woman is facing a second-degree felony charge after Miami police said she threw a high-heeled shoe at another woman’s eye in a dispute downtown, sending her to the hospital early Thursday morning.
According to an arrest report, police were sent to the ParkLine Miami apartment building at 400 NW First Ave. just after 4:45 a.m. after receiving a report of an assault.
The report states that the victim told officers that she had been returning from a birthday celebration with Teryn Meka Mullings, 32, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, when she told Mullings, “I like you for who you are, not for what you have to offer and you like me only for my benefit and not for who I am.”
The woman said this enraged Mullings, who told her, “That’s really how you feel? Let’s fight then,” according to the report.
Police said the victim “began to take off her high heels” when Mullings grabbed one of the shoes and hurled it at her left eye, causing a cut above her eyebrow.
Authorities said Mullings then left and officers later located her at Northwest First Court and Sixth Street as she was “trying to flee.”
Medics took the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment, police said.
According to police, Mullings claimed that the woman “launched at her first and she was defending herself” but later made an admission that was redacted from the report.
Officers arrested Mullings on a charge of aggravated battery. Jail records list a judge as having found probable cause for the charge but contain contradictory information about her bond status, listing both “no bond” with a pre-trial detention hold and “bond out.”
Regardless, records show Mullings remained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Thursday afternoon.
