Recently, a longtime cryptocurrency investor and businessman paid the equivalent of $7 million dollars in USD Coin for a unit in Downtown Miami. The buyer, Sergio Gutierrez, a Costa Rican software developer, was represented by Coral Gables-based attorney Richard Barbara, who along with Coral Gables Title + Escrow, closed the transaction. Coral Gables Title is owned by Barbara, Rodney Barreto and his son, Brad Barreto. The transaction was completed using “USD Coin,” a form of crypto currency known as a “stable coin.” 1 USD can always be redeemed for $1, giving it a stable price.

A 10-mile long park is springing up in Miami, in an unlikely place
MIAMI, Fla. – “The Underline” is a park that is starting to spring up, on the underside of the Miami Metrorail. The first phase, from the Brickell Station to the Vizcaya Station, was unveiled on Friday during a ribbon cutting ceremony. When completed, it will stretch from Downtown Miami to South Miami. It will fill in the open spaces underneath the Metrorail, giving residents and visitors a chance to spread out a bit and enjoy the scenery, as they make their way around Miami. When completed, it will take up the 10 miles underneath the tracks.
City of Miramar starts construction on new Park and Ride Lot
MIRAMAR, Fla. – The City of Miramar has announced construction plans for a new Park and Ride lot along east Hiatus Road, between Pembroke Road and Miramar Boulevard. The facility would support the I-95 Express service to Downtown Miami and Brickell. It will accommodate more than 440 cars and will include electric charging stations for 20 cars. It will also have the capability to charge electric buses. The new Miramar Park and Ride lot will also include 911 cell towers and security cameras for enhanced safety.

In 2020 as a whole, county space absorption was a negative 657,677 square feet, although there was a positive absorption of 239,708 square feet in the final quarter of the year, reducing the annual loss. By comparison, 2019 saw an absorption for the year of 209,889 square feet after an absorption of 128,973 the year before. As the year ended, a total of 3,615,636 square feet of offices were under construction in the county. Hardest hit by the vacancies by far is Downtown Miami, where more than 6.9 million square feet of offices at the end of the year were 22.7% vacant.

MIAMI – A homeless man has been arrested, accused of robbing a man who was trying to help him. The victim thought the homeless man was asking for money, but instead found himself face to face with a knife. As a result, the day after Christmas is a day 24-year-old Jose Cabeza will not soon forget. “When I was walking back from the gas station to my house, there was a homeless man who called me and I thought he was asking for some money,” he said. But Cabeza soon realized that 48-year-old Richard Williams was not just looking for money.
Emergency road repair contract approved following major water main break in Downtown Miami
MIAMI – The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department has approved an emergency road repair contract related to Wednesday’s water main break in Downtown Miami. According to a spokeswoman from the department, Jennifer Messemer-Skold, Biscayne Boulevard remains closed from Southeast Second Street to Biscayne Way, as well as from Southeast Third Avenue to Biscayne Boulevard. The 12-inch water main break occurred Wednesday morning at 300 Biscayne Boulevard Way. The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department issued a boil water notice for the impacted buildings due to the break. The four impacted buildings are Met 1 located at 300 S Biscayne Boulevard, Muze at 340 SE 3rd Street, South East Financial at 200 S. Biscayne Boulevard and Citi Group Center at 201 S. Biscayne Boulevard.
Water Main Rupture Creates Sinkhole, Spews Sediment Into Bay
Water has been shut off and Metromover service has been suspended in parts of downtown Miami today after a water main burst, spewing water and sediment into the road and Biscayne Bay. The water also mixed with underground sediment, covering parts of the street and some parking garages with a layer of mud. Some of the sediment also infiltrated into Biscayne Bay through storm drains, according to Miami city commissioner Ken Russell. Increase in cases of COVID-19 causing several major South Florida events to be postponed or cancelled
MIAMI – The coronavirus pandemic is forcing some popular events that bring tons of visitors and money into South Florida to be cancelled. With the positive cases of COVID-19 on the rise in South Florida, some events have even been postponed to next year due to them potentially becoming super spreader events. Art Basel has been canceled in Miami Beach, a big loss to the economy and tourism industry. In Fort Lauderdale, the Winterfest Boat Parade set to take place next month is a no-go. The big New Year’s Eve downtown countdown in Fort Lauderdale has yet to be decided upon.

Officers find Metromover bomb threat was not credible
MIAMI – A caller threatened to have placed bombs on the Metromover in downtown Miami. After a Thursday evening investigation, officers found the threat was not credible. Officers evacuated areas at the Metromover stops for Miami Dade College’s Wolfson Campus at 300 NE Second Ave., and Bayside Marketplace at 401 Biscayne Blvd. According to Officer Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for the Miami-Dade Police Department, the officers were still investigating the source of the threats. The Complaint details the longstanding customs, policies, and practices of Miami-Dade County that disadvantage Black residents in Miami Gardens. This is environmental racism, pure and simple,” said Betty Ferguson, former Miami-Dade County Commissioner and resident of Miami Gardens. To protect themselves and other residents of Miami Gardens, the Plaintiffs seek a permanent injunction to prevent the Defendants from proceeding with high-speed automobile races in the community.

The Miami-Dade County Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) launched its new 836 Express Bus Service on Monday, Mar. West Miami-Dade commuters now will be able to travel directly from the new Dolphin Station Park & Ride, located at 12065 NW 12 St., to Downtown Miami on the new express bus service. This service will bypass traffic by using the inside shoulder of State Road (SR) 836 when regular lanes are congested. The inside shoulder lanes of SR 836 were widened, painted with a red stripe, and stamped with Bus Only indicators to accommodate the service. The 836 Express Bus service is the first express route to provide East-West service.
