“People are just fed up, and if we don’t stand up, we know that this government is just going to keep pushing the line toward authoritarianism,” said Jennifer Jones with Hope and Action Indivisible, one of the groups organizing Saturday’s protest at Young Circle in Hollywood. “We love America, and we want to save our democracy.”

Jones said the event will give people an opportunity to express frustration with what she called “an authoritarian power grab,” citing concerns over the use of military force in U.S. cities and what she described as growing efforts to suppress free speech under President Donald Trump.

Another topic expected to draw attention Saturday: mass deportations.

“This isn’t about left and right,” Jones said. “This is really not even about politics. It’s about our rights.”

In Miami, organizer Cindy Lerner said demonstrators will gather at the Torch of Friendship in the downtown area. She said last June’s turnout brought thousands and expects an even larger crowd this time.

“Our three branches of government need to all function equally, and we have no kings,” Lerner said.

“It’s a very diverse population here,” she added. “To walk around the Torch of Friendship, which is a very meaningful place to hold the protest, and to see how creative people are with their signs and their statements — it’s inspiring.”
