Tips lead deputies to suspect in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea bike shop burglary

Suspect arrested in connection with Lauderdale-by-the-Sea bike shop burglary.

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. — Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives on Friday identified a suspect in a September bike shop burglary that they say left shattered glass behind after the front door was smashed and $1,900 in cash was stolen.

They said the break-in happened around 8:20 p.m. on Sept. 18 at Pedrito’s Bike Shop, located at 238 Commercial Blvd., in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

Upon arrival, deputies said they found the shop’s glass front door smashed, the cash register open and about $1,900 missing.

Investigators said tips from the public and surveillance video helped identify the suspect as 64-year-old Alex Peter Ivanovic.

Jail records show he is charged in two separate cases with burglary of an unoccupied structure and violation of community control.

Ivanivic also faces additional counts of criminal mischief involving property damage under $1,000 and probation violation.

He was being held without bond at the Joseph V. Conte Facility in Pompano Beach as of Friday morning.
