PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — A birthday celebration turned into a terrifying moment for family and friends Saturday afternoon when a driver crashed into a ditch near a local park.
Pembroke Pines police responded to the scene, blocking off the perimeter road on the southwest side of C.B. Smith Park for the investigation.
Willie Robertson was celebrating his daughter’s birthday at the park when the crash occurred.
“This guy came around the corner doing about 60 or 80 miles per hour” Robertson said.
The impact sent the vehicle off the road and into a ditch. Robertson, rushing to help, jumped over a fence to assist the driver in getting out of the car. Afterward, he said he saw the driver being detained by police.
“He was hammered,” Robertson added. “It didn’t really make sense to me because I was like, he got in a wreck, he’s incoherent no doubt.”
Witness Ryan Vila, a family member at the party, said the crash was a frightening experience, especially with children nearby.
“It was a very scary situation because we’ve got kids here at the party,” Vila said. “You never know what could happen. The kids could run across.”
Authorities confirmed that no one was injured, but they have not yet confirmed if the driver was arrested.
