Family seeks justice after man killed in Pompano Beach hit-and-run

Loved ones call for justice after man killed in Pompano Beach hit-and-run

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — A grieving family is calling for justice after 40-year-old Joey Henriquez was fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash in Pompano Beach on October 12th.

According to authorities, Henriquez was walking his bicycle across the 2600 block of North Palm Aire Drive early Sunday morning when he was hit by a Chevy Trailblazer.

The driver, identified by police as Sholom Marcus, initially fled the scene. Investigators say Marcus briefly returned, but then left again without offering help or waiting for police.

Henriquez suffered a severe brain injury and was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by Monday night.

Marcus was later arrested and now faces criminal charges for failing to remain at the scene of the crash.

Marcus will appear in bond court Monday.

Joey’s sister, Michelle Zymet, is heartbroken and demanding accountability.

“Why would you leave my brother there lying on the floor? Did you not know you hit someone or something?” she said. “Just take accountability, take responsibility for your actions. Own up to it.”

The family hopes justice will be served in memory of Joey, who they say was simply trying to get across the street when his life was cut short.
