KEY LARGO, Fla. — State wildlife officers are seeking information and offering a reward after an American crocodile shot with a spear gun was spotted in Key Largo.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, officers were notified about the crocodile, spotted near mile marker 101 of the Overseas Highway, at around 11:45 Saturday morning.
The crocodile had been speared in the head.
“FWC officers and authorized wildlife professionals from Zoo Miami attempted to capture the crocodile for treatment but were unsuccessful,” an FWC news release states.
It’s illegal to kill or harass American crocodiles, a threatened species, under state and federal law.

Any tips leading to an arrest or citation are eligible for a $1,000 reward.
