PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — Police have identified the driver who crashed into a ditch inside C.B. Smith Park.
It happened late Saturday afternoon along the perimeter road on the park’s southwest side.
According to police, 50-year-old Yamil Perez was behind the wheel when his vehicle went off the perimeter road and ended up partially submerged in the water.
It happened near a child’s birthday party, where witnesses saw the crash occur.
“This guy came around the corner doing about 60 or 80 miles per hour” said Willie Robertson, who was there to celebrate his daughter’s birthday. “He was hammered. It didn’t really make sense to me because I was like, he got in a wreck, he’s incoherent, no doubt.”
Perez was arrested by police on DUI charges. He remained behind bars at the Broward County Main Jail as of Monday morning.
