MARGATE, Fla. — Newly released video obtained by Local 10 News on Tuesday shows a group of thieves stealing dozens of candles from a Bath & Body Works in Margate, and employees believe the same suspects may have hit other stores across South Florida.
Surveillance footage shows three people walking into the store off Atlantic Boulevard with their faces covered and quickly filling bags with merchandise before walking out with more than 60 three-wick candles worth more than $1,600.
“She came in and she came in very hostile,” store employee John Flood told Local 10 News. “She came in complaining already. She already came in with bad energy.”
Bath & Body Works employee Saskia Peralta said she’s concerned because the suspects appear to be targeting several locations.
“They’re doing this in multiple stores,” Peralta said. “They’re not just coming here to the Lakewood Shopping Center. They do this in multiple stores. It is a big deal.”
Employees said the incident happened last month, but Margate police are still looking for the group. Investigators believe the trio may also be connected to a similar theft at a Bath & Body Works in Hollywood.
“They were just going up, taking them and grabbing them in her purse,” Flood said. “It was insane.”
Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
