HOLLYWOOD, Fla. — Firefighters were battling a blaze at a high-rise building on Hollywood Beach on Tuesday evening.
It happened at the Edgewater Beach Towers at 400 N. Surf Road. The 12-story building, completed in 1970, is located along the Hollywood Beach Broadwalk.

Video from Sky 10 showed flames coming from a top-floor unit. Crews were able to put down the flames within minutes.
“The resident of the affected apartment has been confirmed safe and unharmed,” a spokesperson for Hollywood Fire Rescue told Local 10 News. “Additionally, an elderly female was transported to (HCA Florida) Aventura Hospital for further evaluation and care.”
The spokesperson said first responders “are on scene working to contain the fire and ensure resident safety.”
Additionally, officials said a firefighter and a police officer were also treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Authorities said power was out on the top two floors of the building.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether the flames damaged any additional units in the building.
