MIAMI — A man has died after he got pinned by a vehicle Wednesday morning that he was working on at the time, Miami police confirmed.
According to police, the accident occurred just before 9 a.m. in the area of Southwest Seventh Avenue and Eighth Street in the city’s Little Havana neighborhood.
Police said officers arrived at the scene and found the victim, who was about 40 years old, pinned by the van.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami Fire Rescue.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the victim was possibly working on a vehicle when the vehicle rolled and pinned him,” Officer Mike Vega told Local 10 News in an email.
Sky 10 flew over the scene after the accident as investigators were focusing their attention on a white van. A tarp could be seen peeking out from underneath the van.
Local 10’s Liane Morejon was told that a man had the van lifted up on a makeshift jack and was working underneath it when the van came crashing down on top of him.
At the scene, she saw a large rock beneath the van -- possibly what was used to prop the van up.
Police eventually called in a tow truck to lift the van, and several officers were seen pulling the body out from underneath it.
The body was later put into a body bag and was taken away by the medical examiner. Police also removed a small dog from the van, which was taken away by Animal Services.
