DORAL, Fla. — Newly-released video shows a secret recipe heist at a Doral restaurant, authorities say.
Doral police arrested Carlos Francisco Gottberg Marquez, 50, on a felony theft of trade secrets charge on Monday.
On Wednesday, the restaurant released surveillance video showing the theft.
Authorities said Gottberg was caught stealing from Mordisco Miami, a restaurant located at 10355 NW 41st St. and owned by Venezuelan chef Cesar Gonzalez, who boasts millions of followers on social media.
“The most valuable component of a restaurant that has a unique menu are these books,” Gonzalez said in Spanish during a news conference with Doral police on Wednesday.
Police said Gottberg was seen stealing two cookbooks on Oct. 12 and the third on Sunday.
Doral Police Department Chief Edwin Lopez said the recipes are worth “hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
“From temperatures to spices to just so many different components, that’s what is required to make the menu at Mordisco and it’s a unique restaurant,” Lopez said.
Police said Gottberg was arrested at his second job, a restaurant at the Shoma Bazaar food hall at 9420 NW 41st St., and confessed.
Gottberg was later released from jail on a $2,500 bond.
