Records show that 45-year-old Dandrea Tioni Johnson was taken into custody by Broward deputies Wednesday and booked into the Broward Main Jail on a felony battery charge.

Johnson told the judge he was attacked by the victim’s pit bull service dog, which he said led him to strike the victim. The victim remains hospitalized in a coma.

The attack happened around 7:20 p.m. on Oct. 11 at the Aldi on 3301 North State Road 7.

Surveillance video showed Johnson arguing with the victim inside the store before following him outside, where deputies said he sucker-punched the man, causing him to fall and hit his head.

“He’s a father, he’s a grandfather, he’s a brother, he’s a son, and everybody is just devastated,” the victim’s brother told Local 10 News last week. “And then to be put in a coma — it’s terrible.”

A judge found probable cause Thursday morning and set Johnson’s bond at $100,000. He was also ordered to wear a GPS monitor, have no contact with the victim, and stay away from the grocery store.
