MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — An individual was arrested after a weapon was found on the campus of John A. Ferguson Senior High School in southwest Miami-Dade on Friday, district officials confirmed.

“Miami-Dade County Public Schools is aware of a weapon found on campus at John A. Ferguson Senior High School. No threats were made, and thanks to a report via FortifyFL, Miami-Dade Schools Police swiftly investigated and made an arrest,” an M-DCPS spokesperson said in a statement.

The school is located at 15900 SW 56th St.

Officials said tools like FortifyFL are critical in maintaining school safety and encouraged students and community members to continue reporting suspicious activity.

“At M-DCPS, the safety and well-being of all students remain our highest priority. All reports will be taken seriously and may lead to life-altering consequences,” the statement continued.

No additional details about the suspect or the type of weapon that was confiscated were immediately released.
