According to her arrest report, Rebecca Lynn Sanon, of Tamarac, stole a total of $44,072.51 during the time she served as treasurer for the PTO for Imagine Charter School at Broward between August 2020 and July/August 2024.

Police said members of the PTO filed a complaint with Coral Springs police in August 2024 after discovering that Sanon had allegedly embezzled more than $17,000.

According to the report, the board claimed that they were preparing for a PTO event on July 27, 2024, when they discovered that the organization only had about $1,000 in its bank account, which was significantly lower than expected.

Police said the board reviewed its account and discovered that about $17,000 was missing.

But police said detectives discovered the actual amount missing over the years in which Sanon served on the PTO was more than $44,000.

According to the report, the losses included $35,490 in ATM withdrawals, along with utility payments, Uber transactions and purchases made at stores and restaurants, including Publix and Walmart.

Police said surveillance video helped tie Sanon to the fraudulent purchases/transactions.

According to the report, detectives initially questioned Sanon in January 2025, at which time she admitted to using the PTO’s debit card to make an ATM withdrawal at a Sam’s Club and then using the card to take an Uber ride during the night of a car accident.

She told detectives she withdrew the money because she was going through a “bad situation” and used the funds to pay her rent to avoid being evicted, according to the report.

It’s unclear why Sanon wasn’t arrested in January after her alleged admissions to detectives.

She was, however, arrested Wednesday on charges of grand theft over $20,000 but less than $100,000, scheme to defraud/obtain property and criminal use of personal identification.

As of Friday morning, Sanon was no longer appearing in the online jail database.
