It happened in the Miami River off North River Drive near Southwest First Street.

Miami police and fire rescue crews initially responded just after 5:30 a.m. Sunday when they received reports of a person who fell in the water.

After arriving, officers said they spoke to a witness who told them a man fell into the river.

It is unclear how he ended up in the water, however witnesses said he fell and they attempted to hand him a 2x4 wooden plank before he went under.

At some point, the Miami Police Dive Team was called out and tried to search for the victim, and within minutes, the victim was found and transferred to paramedics standing by to render aid.

Live saving efforts were performed on the man, and he was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition.
