MIAMI — The Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida marked a historic milestone last week, breaking ground on a $40 million expansion at the Miccosukee Casino & Resort that leaders say will “shape the next generation of tribal hospitality, entertainment and cultural pride.”

The ceremonial groundbreaking, held Oct. 23 in the resort’s courtyard, brought together tribal leaders, community members and project partners. The event included a traditional blessing, remarks from tribal and property leaders, and a symbolic turning of the earth.

The first phase of the expansion will feature a resort-style pool and lazy river and a multi-purpose entertainment facility — both key parts of the Tribe’s long-term master plan.

“This groundbreaking is a testament to our Tribe’s strength and forward-thinking spirit,” said Chairman Talbert Cypress. “Each shovel of earth turned is a symbol of our commitment to the next generation and to the enduring Miccosukee legacy.”

Tribal officials said the expansion highlights the Miccosukee Tribe’s dedication to economic growth, job creation and cultural preservation, continuing a legacy that began when the Tribe entered the gaming industry in 1990 with the Miccosukee Indian Bingo Hall.

“The Miccosukee Tribe’s vision for growth and transformation continues to inspire us all,” said Brad Rhines, general manager of Miccosukee Casino & Resort. “This phased $40 million expansion strengthens our position as a premier entertainment destination while enhancing the guest experience in every way.”

The Tribe is working with Arcadis, Dade Construction, EDSA, and Martin Aquatic on the multi-phase project.

“Arcadis is honored to help bring the Tribe’s vision to life,” said Dan Freed, business unit director for Arcadis U.S., Inc. “This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to blending cultural heritage, design innovation and sustainable development.”

Located on the edge of the Florida Everglades, at 500 SW 177 Ave., the Miccosukee Casino & Resort features more than 1,800 slot machines, 20 poker tables and several restaurants, ranging from casual dining to fine cuisine.
