North Lauderdale man arrested after stolen car pursuit ends in Opa-locka lake, cops say

OPA-LOCKA, Fla. — A North Lauderdale man was arrested Monday following a pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that ended in a bailout in Opa-locka, authorities confirmed.

Jail records show Marcel Johnson, 33, faces one count of grand theft of a motor vehicle.

The incident began when the Broward Sheriff’s Office notified the Opa-locka Police Department of a stolen vehicle entering the 2300 block of 140th Street.

Authorities said officers from both agencies coordinated to track the vehicle safely. The pursuit ended when Johnson abandoned the car in a nearby lake and tried to flee on foot.

There were no reported injuries.

Police said Johnson was taken into custody without incident and was being held at the Broward County Main Jail on a $2,500 bond as of Wednesday afternoon.
