Surveillance video captured the moment the teens ran off, trying to get away after stealing a car at gunpoint, authorities said.

“That vehicle was located in this area. Deputies responded and upon arrival, three armed subjects fled from the vehicle,” MDSO Undersheriff Christopher Carothers said.

The bailout happened near Southwest 279th Street and 127th Avenue in Homestead.

Deputies said they had initially spotted the stolen vehicle about 15 minutes away, near Southeast 25th Avenue, also in Homestead.

Many residents in the area who were still awake saw and heard the chaos.

“I go upstairs to get, like, a better look of what’s going on and then I see there’s a bunch of sirens all around the perimeter of the houses, and then I hear and I see all the cops running around,” Virginia Trejos said.

“I heard that there were shots going on,” neighbor Jairo Sinclair said. “A lot of people coming and going here, a lot of cops. I’ve never seen that before, I’ll be honest with you.”

After the foot chase, video shows two of the teens being handcuffed by deputies.

The third teen was shot in the arm.

“That subject was rendered first aid by the deputy and then was transported to Jackson South for treatment,” Carothers said. “Two of the other subjects were taken into custody by on scene deputies.”

“It’s so sad. I mean, so young and so complicated, right?” Sinclair said. “I mean, instead of using their time to do something else, they are stealing cars at gunpoint.”

Deputies recovered two guns at the scene. The undersheriff praised his teammates for their bravery.

“The Miami-Dade sheriff deputies just displayed the upmost courage,” he said. “They engaged an armed subject, keeping our community safe and I’m very thankful for them.”

MDSO confirmed no deputies or residents in the area were hurt during the carjacking and shooting.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the deputy shooting, per standard protocol.
