MIRAMAR, Fla. — The annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival in Miramar had a new focus this year.
This coming after the devastation of Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica, which left billions of dollars in damage in its wake.
The South Florida community dropped off donations at the festival, like canned food, toilet paper and more,
The relief supplies will be sent to communities around the Jamacian nation next week.
The yearly event at Miramar Regional Park has brought out residents through unique food, reggae music and culture.
In the aftermath of the hurricane, one festival attendee said giving to those in need is as important as ever.
“I can’t imagine my home being flooded, having to start over,” said Dominique Dorsett. “It’s hard for us in America to start over, and we live in a great country. Just imagine in the islands, it takes forever for them to get supplies, things like they need them.”
The festival runs through 10 p.m. Sunday.
