FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A JetBlue flight from Fort Lauderdale to Los Angeles turned terrifying when oxygen masks suddenly dropped midair, sending passengers into panic.
Video from the flight shows crying children and flight attendants urging everyone to put on masks.
“I was very, very scared,” said passenger Maranda Wyatt, who was aboard Flight 2801. “There were a lot of kids crying.”
Wyatt and fellow traveler Dominic Narvaez said the plane lost cabin pressure while flying over Arizona.
“You could feel the pressure in your head when they were yelling at us to put our masks on,” Narvaez said.
When the plane landed safely in Los Angeles, passengers broke into applause.
“It was definitely one of those movie moments when we landed and the whole plane started clapping,” Narvaez said.
JetBlue apologized and issued flight credits, but passengers say they still haven’t received an explanation.
In a statement to Local 10 on Monday, the airline said:
“On Wednesday, November 5, JetBlue flight 2801 from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to Los Angeles (LAX) experienced a pressurization issue during descent into the Los Angeles area. The aircraft landed safely at LAX and taxied to the gate under its own power. No injuries were reported. Safety is JetBlue’s first priority, and the aircraft remains out of service while our maintenance team investigates the cause.”
