AVENTURA, Fla. — Newly released video shows the moments a hotel meet-up to purchase used shoes took a violent turn after authorities said a spurned would-be foot-sniffer struck a woman with his car.
It happened in September at the Serena Hotel, located at 2820 NE 214th St. in Aventura, after the victim agreed to meet the suspect, 28-year-old Elmoncy Sercle, to sell him her used shoes.
According to police, Sercle, of southwest Miami-Dade, asked to smell the woman’s feet and when she declined, he fled the hotel room with what she thought were her belongings.
When the victim chased him into the parking lot, she said he struck her with his vehicle.
She spoke to Local 10 about the incident back in September.
“When I got there, he just wanted to sniff my feet and I didn’t feel comfortable with that,” the woman said. “I mean, you could have my sneakers all you want. I mean, I don’t care. I’m not wearing them. And you know, they’re just stinky old sneakers. But people like weird things.”
She said after chasing him into the parking lot, “he did a three-point turn and actually hit me with a car. Ran me over.”
The incident was indeed captured on surveillance camera.
Police said after reviewing Sercle’s background, they determined he has been the subject of other incidents involving the same modus operandi.
