HIALEAH, Fla. — A woman was arrested early Thursday morning after police said she struck her boyfriend in the head with a glass bottle during an argument inside their Hialeah apartment.
It happened around 5:15 a.m. at a home near West 56th Street, according to an arrest report. Police identified the suspect as 43-year-old Ailin Vargas Ginarte.
Officers with the Hialeah Police Department arrived to find a man lying by a staircase, bleeding heavily from the head. He told police his girlfriend had hit him with a glass bottle, the report stated.
Paramedics provided first aid before transporting the victim to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
Investigators followed a trail of blood to an apartment, where they found Ginarte.
After being read her Miranda rights, she told officers the victim — her boyfriend of eight months — had been drunk and that she initially refused to let him in. She later changed her story several times, according to police.
Inside the apartment, officers reported finding broken glass on the floor, blood stains, and signs that the scene had been cleaned. The report said there was a strong odor of bleach and a bucket filled with soapy water in the kitchen.
While at the hospital, the victim told officers his girlfriend attacked him and threatened to kill him if she was arrested.
Ginarte was later taken into custody and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Jail records show she is facing one count each of aggravated battery with great bodily harm and attempting to tamper with physical evidence.
She remains at TGK as of Thursday afternoon, with her bond listed as “to be set.”
